Finance and Office Assistant (Maternity Cover)

How do you put feminism into action at Womankind?

As the Finance and Office Assistant, I see this role as an opportunity to support Womankind’s mission from behind the scenes—ensuring that our systems and structures uphold the very values we strive for: equity, empowerment, intersectionality, and social justice. By aligning my day-to-day responsibilities with these principles, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s transformative work.

Tell us about your feminist journey?

From a young age, I saw how women’s work was rarely valued. But it wasn’t until I entered the professional world that I fully grasped how deeply embedded these imbalances are—from pay disparities to the lack of access to leadership roles.

As a woman of colour, I’m especially drawn to intersectional feminism. Watching my mother navigate multiple forms of marginalisation made it clear to me that feminism must go beyond gender—it must also confront racism, classism, ableism, homophobia, xenophobia, and all other systems of oppression.

In my work, I strive to embody these values: promoting transparency and equity, creating inclusive and culturally aware environments, mentoring colleagues, advocating for staff wellbeing and growth, and centring care and community in everyday interactions. Sometimes this means speaking up; other times, it’s as simple as checking in with someone who may be feeling unseen or overwhelmed. Each action, no matter how small, contributes to the broader change I believe in.

A feminist hero of yours?

I couldn’t name just one feminist hero—there are far too many. Throughout my life, I’ve been shaped by incredible women: mentors in my personal and professional life who have guided me with strength, wisdom, and generosity. I’m forever inspired and grateful to them.

I also take inspiration from women in the public eye who use their platforms to advocate for justice and equity.

But it’s the countless women working quietly on the front lines. The caregivers, advocates, organisers—giving their all to the cause—who truly deserve our recognition and respect. We wouldn’t be where we are today without their dedication.
