How do you put feminism into action at Womankind?

I put feminism into action at Womankind through the choices I make about power, resources, and voice. I centre decolonization by valuing the lived experiences and leadership of women and girls as expertise, shifting decision-making closer to movements on the ground, and challenging funding and accountability systems rooted in inequality. I prioritise learning that is accountable to women and girls, values lived experience as knowledge, and informs how we adapt, resource, and hold ourselves to account. My leadership focuses on ethical use of power, shared risk and building feminist systems that are sustainable.

Tell us about your feminist journey?

I was born into poverty in a marginalized county in Kenya and into a minority community experiencing layered exclusion. Growing up with gender-based discrimination and limited access to basic services and opportunities shaped how I understood injustice and resilience. These experiences informed my feminist journey and led me into this sector, committed to ensuring women, girls and marginalized groups are believed, treated with dignity, and supported to access equal opportunities and thrive despite systemic and barriers, that I continue to challenge at a personal level and collectively.

A feminist hero of yours?

Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti amongst many others is my feminist hero. She organized women to confront colonial and patriarchal power, not politely but collectively. She spoke truth to power, paid a high personal cost, and proved African feminism is rooted in mass organizing, dignity, and courage; not permission or respectability and collective political liberation.
